Inc. writer Justin Bariso thinks Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi was disrespectful to Travis Kalanick. I must respectfully disagree. Kalanick’s investment may be personal, but this is a financial issue and one Kalanick seems determined to keep in the realm of the personal. Uber was hemorrhaging executives and consumer confidence because of Kalanick. The company needs to move to a mature world-class governance model, regardless of Kalanick’s feelings.
This is the point Khosrowshahi’s email misses: Uber is still Kalanick’s baby. And despite Kalanick’s serious mistakes, he’s obviously worked extremely hard to get the company where it is today. To paint his recent moves as “unusual” takes none of this into account.
