Mothers can be among the busiest New Yorkers. Therefore, it’s easy to see them as the most active on-demand customers, wielding their smartphones to get what they want, when they want it — a taxi (Uber), home cleaning (Handy), new clothes (Rent the Runway). It was only a matter of time until a bright mind applied the concept of the “shared economy” to the babysitting profession. The new app Hello Sitter, which launched this summer in New York City, allows busy parents to book a babysitter in as little as one hour.
