MItch’s Take: Watch out for the older worker, folks. They are going to transform retirement, unfortunately because they can’t afford to retire as easily as their parents. Millennials have simply grown up with that fact firmly established, so started downsizing earlier in life to create a sustainable livelihood.

While 86 percent of respondents at least somewhat agree that they have ‘a strong desire to work independently’, of the over 50s surveyed, around two-thirds (65 percent) say they’d prefer to work as independent contractors, presumably on the basis that they have established careers and a degree of financial security. This is roughly twice the proportion of the 18-34s.
